Why is it important to have amarok?  DSL comes with xmms
and mplayer is available with MyDSL.  Just curious why ether
of these do not do what you want.

I've never seen Amarok do anything XMMS can't...except garble my MIDI files, and crash. :p

I'd recommend sticking with XMMS too.

Amarok has some nice non-useful features, like lyrics fetching, wikipedia...

And what you were asking for...
This might help:
Code Sample
wget http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/damnsmall/mydsl/system/dsl-dpkg.dsl
mydsl-load dsl-dpkg.dsl
sudo chmod 666 /etc/apt/sources.list
echo "deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ sarge main non-free contrib" >> /etc/apt/sources.list
sudo chmod 640 /etc/apt/sources.list
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install amarok

You could save that code as bash script...

I didn't tried to install yet. But I'll try when I get back to home from work...
I think it will work just fine.
Note: I will also install Konqueror.

Well it didn't worked.
Here's some errors:
Quote
Unpacking libxv1 (from .../libxv1_4.3.0.dfsg.1-14sarge1_i386.deb) ...
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/libxv1_4.3.0.dfsg.1-14sarge1_i386.deb (--unpac
trying to overwrite `/usr/X11R6/lib/libXv.so.1.0', which is also in package xlibs
dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe)

...

Errors were encountered while processing:
/var/cache/apt/archives/libxv1_4.3.0.dfsg.1-14sarge1_i386.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

And when I tried to run amaroK:
Quote
$ amarok
amaroK: [Loader] Starting amarokapp..
amaroK: [Loader] Don't run gdb, valgrind, etc. against this binary! Use amarokapp.
/usr/lib/amarok/amarokapp: error while loading shared libraries: libGL.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I suggest you to try Rhytmbox...

Did you try loading the XFree86 extension before running amarok?
Posted by ke4nt1 on July 19 2006,20:06
You did say Jukebox?

Have you tried the Edna extension?
It's nice for a lan-connected household.

The libXv.so error is typical..
Did you try forcing the install of that deb?

'cd' to the location of the libxv1_4.3.0*.deb package
( /var/cache/apt/archives/ ??? )
as root run dpkg -i --force-overwrite libxv1_4.3.0*.deb

Don't be surprised if you have to do this
a few times to several files.

Sometimes I hand-place files after extracting
the contents of the .deb files, rather than allowing
dpkg to do it for me.

Amarok rocks.. I like it's featureset as well.
It would make a nice extension.

Well. I could try -f option with apt-get.
But installing amarok isn't that important to me. :)
