So I have been looking around and have started to see that what I want to do is very possible, but I don't really know where to start.

I want to build a client that reads from my linux server a shared directory with all kinds of media. Then gives playback to a projector and recieves input from a remote for a home theater style machine. I know alot of this stuff has been talking about mythtv but I don't really care about that. I just want it to be able to play media of different types and also have a dvd player. I was looking around at the different mini itx cases and such and they should work just fine, just wondering if anyone out there has done anything similar. Any help would be awesome. Thanks.
