Hello all DSL user !

I was very impatient to test flash9-beta on DSL ( 3.01 an 3.1)

So i install FIREFOX 2.0
I put the new "libflashplayer.so" plugin in /usr/local/firfox/plugins

If i make about:plugins in FIREFOX
it tell me that flash9 is well installed.

But then i try to connect to a web site with flash inside
i can see flash animation but my firefox close itself after 10 seconds with an "segmentation fault" error.

I install FIREFOX 1.5 and have same problem.

If i return to flash7 plugin, all is working fine.

I try flash9 beta plugin on KNOPPIX V5 (FIREFOX 1.5)
and there all is good !

Is anybody has a solution for flash9 with DSL ?

Thanks a lot.

I'm seeing the same thing - approx 10 seconds in and it kills the browser with gtk errors and a segmentation fault.

It's a pity as a great many sites are using content that doesn't work with flash 7 and its starting to impact on the overall experience of accessing the web using dsl.

for completeness - here is the exact error I get opening flash with flash 9 plugin:

Did you try the gtk2 versions?
Posted by safesys on Jan. 07 2007,20:17
I've not seen any gtk2 versions of firefox 2 in the downloads - do you have a link I can try?

(fwiw, the flash 9 plugin won't initialize at all without gtk2 being installed first, then it plays 10 seconds or so of video then kills ff)

well if there isn't firefox 2, you could try 1.x

Just tried ff 1.0.4 gtk2 - can see a few seconds longer video but still kills the browser.

You can also play embedded flash movies with MPlayer if you have the MediaPlayerConnectivity extension for Firefox :

Flash Player 9 Update beta 2 is still very unstable. I've got the very latest version of Firefox gtk2 and the browser just crashed when there was too much flash content.

You could also try with Opera910.unc.

Hi Spock. thanks for the suggestion. I downloaded the mplayer-1.0pre8cvs.uci and also the mediaplayerconnectivity plugin but can't see a way to get mplayer to play flash files - am I missing something stupid?

I tried the plugin with opera, again it plays for a few seconds before "graying out" (at least it doesn't crash the browser).

The standalone flash player also crashes out.

Any more thoughts or suggestions for getting flash 9 files to play in DSL appreciated.

Hello,

I find that flash9 beta crash with pcm sounds.

I try "DSL-N RC3 " with "firefox 2" and flash9  and there if i install with mydsl "Alsa" all is working fine, no more crash of firefox.

I try to make the same thing with DSL 3.1 , but impossible to install correctly alsa !!!

could you please try this solution ?

Thanks.

:O
Well,

After reading that flash9 beta linux is not compatible with OSS sound driver, but ok with ALSA,

I have installed "alsadeb" with mydsl on an DSL release 3.01, because DSL use only OSS.
ps : mydsl "alsa" is only for DSL 2.x.

But no success, firefox (any version) always crash after few seconds consulting a flash content.

So why ?  DSL-N (rc3 and rc4) + firefox 2 + flash9  :  crash !
and DSL-N (rc3 and rc4) + firefox 2 + flash9   + mydsl "alsa" : All is working fine ???

Is anybody have an idea to help me ?

Thanks a lot for your try.

A DSL compatible version of flash 7 is available here:
You will have to uncompress it and manually more the files over for now.
