Hello guys i have a Dell Latitude cp that i have installed DSL onto. my only problem right now is trying to get the sound working. i have looked at all the other threads out there and tried to use the suggestions there to get my sound working but no luck.specs on my system can be found here

but im sure what you need to know is this

i am new to linux so i do not have the best working knowledge so any pointers would help.

I helped someone with a crystal card before, maybe this exact same model. I forgot the answer, though. I think it was alsa. The answer to many sound not working problems is alsa.Are you using DSL 3.1? If so, download and install alsa.unc (a MyDSL extension). The wiki can help if you don't know how to use MyDSL. Make sure you read the info file for alsa.unc.
If you're using DSL 3.0.1, make sure you boot with the "unionfs" option. Earlier DSL versions, you can download the alsa.dsl file from the repository instead.

My Dell laptop also has CS4237B, and I couldn't get it to work under DSL for ages. But the solution was quite simple:1) Go into system BIOS and click "Enable Audio";
2) In DSL, make a BASH script containing the instructions:
modprobe sound
modprobe ad1848
insmod uart401
insmod cs4232 io=0x530 irq=5 dma=1 dma2=0 mpuio=0x330 mpuirq=5
3) As root, call the script.
The sound worked for me after these steps.
One thing I never got working on that laptop under either FreeDOS or DSL, was MPU-401 support. Windows has drivers containing FM versions of GM MIDI instruments for CS4237 and other SB-legacy cards, but I don't think DSL has what it takes to play a MIDI file on that system.

Yeah. That happens a lot.
