I'd like to create a liveCD install of DSL that essentially I could put on a box at the front of my store. Basically, all it would do it run a flash app at startup in full screen.

So it would appear to me, I need to install flash 7, the customize my .xrcinit file to load firefox. I did the first bit no problem, but I don't know how to get flash in full screen? Any ideas?

Then I'd like to install gigabit drivers, which I havn't had any luck with. Any ideas on that?

Lastly, I'd like to init the firewall and I think I know how to do that, though I havn't tried yet.

It's a pretty simple box, but I'm having a hell of a time getting it all to work off of USB. Actualy, it seems I'm don't know how to backup what I've done CORRECTLY, since every new boot boots it back to the original config. Also, sometime when I back up it just freezes, but I've noticed this only after I've mounted SDA1 (which I was doing before I realized it was mounted as CDROM). Still it doesn't back up correctly?

Is there a way to work on the linux config from windows, then backup all my settings to USB or to a LiveCD. THis would be the ultimate, since I can't access help without the Gigabit drivers.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Also, is DSL a good idea for jsut running this flash or is there something out there that might be better?

Cheers again!

While it would be possible to do what it sounds like you want, you might want to search both the forum archives here and the Internet with your favourite search engine, using the keyword, kiosk. Firefox itself has a kiosk plugin, but I haven't tried it so I don't know if it would work for you.

The dimensions of a flash movie, as with any embedded html object, are controlled from within the html page.  If you get firefox to run fullscreen (i'd try tinker's kiosk suggestion) and have your flash movie set at 100%, it should fill the screen.

Depending on what the application is, I would also suggest trying the flash standalone player, which has a built-in fullscreen feature and doesn't require the overhead of a web browser. Unfortunately you can't keep it fullscreen in a typical window manager if the user decides to switch, and it's only Flash version 6.

So you're saying the only standalone is flash 6 right now (or 9 which isn't wokring)? I think It might be better to do firefox with kiosk loading flash.

Now, the remaining problem is that I can't save my configuration. Where's best to get this information? Everytime I change something and hit backup, it just freezes and when I reboot everything reverts to the original configuration.

So in theory, right now I will have to download Firefox 2.0, which shouldn't present a problem? Then R-Kiosk, which works well in windows, and then flash 7, which I already have working.

One of the best places to get the information about backup/restore is in the wiki. Either follow the link "Saving Your Settings" from the main page or find it in the "Frequently Asked Questions". Backup and Restore is under the main topic of Persistence with this link:

To which device are you attempting to save your backup?
