I upgraded to gtk2-0705.unc so that I could install things like Gnumeric and Flash Player 9.  I went into Firefox and installed the Flash Player 9 plug-in.  Unfortunately, the browser kept crashing on me, so I had to go to Flash Player 7.

But Flash Player 7 doesn't cut it.  When you play a Youtube video, the text (share option, replay option, title of other videos) in the video screen never shows up.  On some web sites that use Flash, things I see in Flash Player 9 don't show up in Flash Player 7.

It's ANNOYING to have to boot up with my Puppy Linux CD just to see what's going on in a Flash 9 web site.  What would it take to be able to see Flash 9 stuff in DSL?

It is interesting that the missing text you mention is displayed when using XFree86. So likely is a font issue with Xvesa/XFbdev. I can see the text while using XFree86.unc with flash7 on my 112MB Sony Picturebook sub-notebook.

Flash 9 requires Gtk2, Alsa, XFree/Xorg?, and Gtk2 Firefox, since these are all extensions, not sure of their stability. To add all of these into DSL would more than double the size of DSL. And that has not seemed to be the direction the community desires.

Perhaps someone can update/test a combination of extensions to achieve flash9 capability.

If it's just a font issue with Xvesa, how do I change that?

I installed the myDSL extension xfree86.unc, and this STILL didn't fix the problem.  I STILL can't see the text in the Youtube video screen.

What's wrong?  Why am I having SO much difficulty fixing such a SIMPLE problem?
