What's the best way to save Youtube videos for DSL?  What format should I use for saving videos?  What web site allows me to save videos in this format?

There are a couple "unofficial" ways to grab streaming flash videos... afaik they're in .flv format.  There's probably various different programs and scripts to do it, but there was a thread in scripting in these forums... < http://damnsmalllinux.org/cgi-bin....t=18656 >

Use the one from the last page, Youtube regularly changes their system to prevent video downloading.

It doesn't grab streaming video, that would lower the quality like hell :P, it downloads the exact video from the youtube server.

The format is H.263+ video and low-quality mp3 audio in flv (flash) container..

On the reverse side, does anyone know how to 'make' a u-tube video of a DSL session ? i.e capture the output of the screen, and I don't mean using a cam?

Well, the basic method of looping with xwd, converting to png, and using mencoder works, I've used it..

xvidcap is a similar tool, but it uses ffmpeg.
recordmydesktop encodes only into .ogg as Theora and Vorbis (it captures sound too).

Look out for youtube's really low video quality though. If you have a big resolution, the vid youtube converts it into might not be watchable..

It's not working.  I can download the *.flv files, but MPlayer refuses to play them.  In fact, MPlayer seems to support every video format EXCEPT *.flv.  What am I doing wrong?
