I run the sounds option in the DSL Control Panel and indicates that I should run that command not in the X Windows environment... is there a CLI commnad to run this setup? OR will teh sound option work, but I cannot get it to probe properly.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Posted by clivesay on Nov. 03 2004,15:38
Soundconfig isn't the greatest tool in the world. I recommend learning what sound chipset you are using then doing a google search or a search in this forum. There are many threads here about setting up some of the more common chipsets.Chris Posted by texmansru47 on Nov. 03 2004,16:45
I have the Crytstal 2160 sound chipset. Now where can I go to find out the setup procedure?

Without knowing WHAT brand, kind, of computer, this is about all I can offer for now. ( Laptop or Desktop, Motherboard, internal/add-on soundcard, etc ??.. ) The 2160 is usually a Neomagic chipset number, found on Dells and other laptops.., not a Crystal chipset number. The Crystal chipset is usually a 42xx number, 4232, or 4237, for example. There is no generic "setup procedure" for soundcards, as you would infer by your last posting. Any config lines or additions to bootlocal or modprobe need to be specific for your chipset. Post up the output of your "lsmod" command, so we can see the chipsets detected, if any... Usually the Crystal 4232 config, with a few tweaks, works for most of the Crystal chipsets . You can search for "4232" or "Crystal" in the forums for more info. 73 ke4nt Posted by texmansru47 on Nov. 03 2004,21:30
It is a chipset of 4236A.

4236A ... That makes sense..For starters , try the usual crystal commands from a root shell Just to see if you get a response.. " rmmod soundcore " " modprobe uart401 " " modprobe cs4232 io=0x530 irq=5 dma=1 dma2=0 mpuio=0x330 mpuirq=5 " You should see no errors when entering these lines. Only a return to the prompt: Once complete, use the ctrl-alt-bksp combination to exit X . then restart X by typing "startx" You should see the wmix app in the lower right hand corner. let us know... And again, searching the forums with the search function set for "4232" or "crystal" reveals a lot of posts and answers. 73 ke4nt Posted by darkdragoon on Nov. 07 2004,04:03

if it worked without configuration from livecd then it should from hd.it is ok to run the setup while in x, but it is a complicated setup program so avoid if possible. |
