Hi to all,Sorry, but mine english is very bad! How can I start nfs-server with Damn small Linux. I would like to release/export Directory in the network with NFS. THX regards Xeon Posted by cbagger01 on Jan. 25 2005,05:17
DSL comes with an NFS client, but does not contain a built-in NFS server. However, you should be able to apt-get it from the Internet. Try either the "Enable Apt" menu item or the "Get Synaptic" menu item. Synaptic is an easy-to-use graphical interface for the command line apt-get system. Posted by Xeon on Jan. 25 2005,19:31
YEEAAAHHH.....That is it.....is working BIG THX regards Xeon Posted by joanou on April 29 2005,22:38
I wish to do the same....but I am behind a corporate firewall, so apt-get via Synaptic will not work. Is there a way to get it working from behind the firewall? Or, where can I download these nfs files and install them myself? Thanks! Posted by mikshaw on April 30 2005,03:35
Maybe have a look here:< http://packages.debian.org/cgi-bin....n=names > you'll still need to enable apt before installing, and you might also need gnu-utils: < http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub....m > install deb packages with "sudo dpkg -i packagename.deb" Posted by cbagger01 on April 30 2005,03:51
You can manually download the Debian package files here:< http://www.debian.org/distrib/packages > You also need to manually download and install dsl-dpkg.dsl and probably gnu-utils.dsl extensions from the myDSL repository. Then you an install them from an xterminal window: sudo dpkg -i debian_package_filename.deb Posted by jls legalize on April 30 2005,11:13
what are gnu-utils and when should I use them?

GNU core utilities: the fundamental set of tools which is the basis of any useable GNU system. They are pretty much expected to be installed in Linux, as many scripts and other programs depend on them.< http://www.gnu.org/software/coreutils/faq/coreutils-faq.html > DSL uses Busybox, which is a single-file replacement for some of these tools. Busybox is much smaller, but is also limited...many of the tools have been stripped of some or most of their optional functionality. Posted by cbagger01 on April 30 2005,17:41
gnu-utils is sometimes needed because the Debian pre or post install scripts will expect that a GNU utility like "ln" is available and it will produce an error if you try to use the Busybox version of "ln".So the short answer is: Install dsl-dpkg.dsl & gnu-utils.dsl to be safe. And if you install just dsl-dpkg and you see errors while installing a Debian package, then go get gnu-utils and try again. Posted by icpeanuts on Mar. 01 2006,07:20
What do you backup in order to keep all the setting and packages for NFS Server and Apt-get etc.. saved with a Frugal Install?
