Hi all... My question is probably fairly easy to answer, yet it still escapes me.

When I put in a dvd or cd (burned or original) and then mount it, (if it even mounts) I can't seem to see any files in the file browser. I went to mnt/cdrom. Am I doing something wrong?

Secondly, half the time it won't even let me mount a cd, whether it's burned or not.

All help is greatly appreciated... thanks :)

go to /mnt/auto/cdrom and see how that does.  :)

Hey clivesay,

Thanks for the speedy reply!

I could of sworn that I had went to that directory, but tried it again and no luck. It just shows up blank. I've tried all kinds of different media (burned mp3's, burned dvd, burned audio cd, store-bought cd's and dvd's). I did read somewhere on these boards that you don't have to mount audio cd's or dvd's. That would explain the error I get when trying to mount them.

I just inserted an audio cd, went to apps > sound/mpeg/voip > xmms > play audio cd (as suggested elsewhere in the forums). The file browser for xmms pops up with a blank directory. I can't seem to figure this damn thing out, but I'm adamant on getting DSL to work, so please bear with me  :D

Any other ideas?

Hello again,

Well I just stuck in a data cd (a program) and mounted it. I was then able to list the contents in /cdrom but not mnt/cdrom or mnt/auto/cdrom.

Still can't read audio or dvd but at least I've made some kinda progress? Hope it will shed some light.

Sorry to waste forum space... just wanted to clarify that I have data cd's listing contents in /cdrom after mounting, instead of /mnt/auto/cdrom or mnt/cdrom. Would anyone know why mine would be different? I'm pretty positive that I checked that dir last night (since it said cdrom :p) but I guess I was too tired to function right :O

Secondly, I'm still having trouble reading audio cd's and dvd movies. I think I read that DSL doesn't come with a dvd player? In that case I'll read the forums some more on how to download a player for DSL. Any suggestions on the audio cd's is greatly appreciated however :)

Hi again,

Well after reading the forums some more I came across this regarding playing audio cd's...

As it stands right now it will work in toram mode and a frugal install, but after the HD install it is a permission problem.  I'll note it as a bug and get it fixed for the next release.  Meanwhile the chmod command should do the trick.

This is my situation and didnt realize it was a bug until now. So I guess everything is working 'as it should' for now.

Thanks again for the help
