ALSA install on DSL 1.4 seems brokenForum: Multimedia Topic: ALSA install on DSL 1.4 seems broken started by: bikerraton Posted by bikerraton on Aug. 12 2005,11:50
I did a hd install of DSL 1.4 and followed the instructions for ALSA install (I found that using Linux alsa instead of dsl alsa at Lilo bootprompt seemed to work). All of the modules are installed into directories but modprobe can't see them. Modprobe gives an error that it can't find any of the alsa modules.

the correct boot command would be 'dsl alsa' for it to work. I am guessing you have the gnu-utils.dsl installed along with dpkg? Alsa does work in 1.4. I use it running frugal to enable my Audigy Platinum II card. I would change the boot code in lilo and remove 'Linux'. No need to add 'dsl' in lilo either. That should have alsa working for you. I had some trouble getting it to work aswell but i finally got it. Here is how i did it:1. open up mydsl and click on alsadeb.dsl. 2. download the 2 packages it says you need 3. download alsadeb.dsl 4. open up a root terminal and exicute "beaver /etc/lilo.conf" 5. in the append statment add the word "alsa" at the end of it 6. restart your computer and your done hope this helps Posted by brokenkingpin on Aug. 12 2005,16:33
opps, forgot one step. before you restart your computer, go back to your terminal and exicute "lilo -v".

I think that "Linux alsa", "dsl alsa", and "alsa" in append all pass the same kernel option (alsa) to the kernel. Maybe my install media is corrupt or my hd file system? I will repartition, reformat and install from a md5 checked cd tomorrow and report back.If it works for you it should work for me.Can anyone verify having DSL 1.4 installed to hd with alsa installing normally, before I wipe the hd?
