mplayer.dsl not working for me with ver. 1.4Forum: Multimedia Topic: mplayer.dsl not working for me with ver. 1.4 started by: hawki Posted by hawki on Aug. 31 2005,12:55
HiI've downloaded and md5sum checked the mplayer.dsl from the repository. It places an icon on the desktop and adds a menu item when I load it. When I tried to run it nothing seemed to happen. Trying to run it from a shell prompt gives me an "Illegal instruction" error. Did I miss a requisite? Do I need to configure something else? Thanks Posted by adraker on Aug. 31 2005,20:55
Hawki,Do you have Xfree86.dsl up and running? The mplayer-xfree86.dsl and XFree86.dsl packages play nicely together. Once you get you config file sorted out, they should run well, at least on a reasonably fast processor and a video card with some acceleration. Posted by hawki on Aug. 31 2005,21:19
adrakerThanks No I am tryng to run the stand-alone version. I'm running Xfbdev because of some hardware issues and really don't want to complicate my life more by configuring XFree86. I was just trying to listen to some streaming audio that uses .asx file format and I thought mplayer would be the easiest to use. Maybe something else would work better for me. thanks again Posted by SaidinUnleashed on Aug. 31 2005,22:26
Mplayer doesn't work with Xfbdev. You have to use Xvesa or Xfree.

HiThanks but that doesn't seem to be my problem. I just tried running it with Xvesa and again on an old laptop I have and got the same error. There must be something else going on I don't know about. Thanks again |
