Hi
I've downloaded and md5sum checked the mplayer.dsl from the repository.  It places an icon on the desktop and adds a menu item when I load it.  When I tried to run it nothing seemed to happen.  Trying to run it from a shell prompt gives me an "Illegal instruction" error.  Did I miss a requisite?  Do I need to configure something else?

Thanks

Hawki,
Do you have Xfree86.dsl up and running?
The mplayer-xfree86.dsl and XFree86.dsl
packages play nicely together.
Once you get you config file sorted out,
they should run well, at least on a reasonably
fast processor and a video card with some acceleration.

No I am tryng to run the stand-alone version.  I'm running Xfbdev because of some hardware issues and really don't want to complicate my life more by configuring XFree86.  I was just trying to listen to some streaming audio that uses .asx file format and I thought mplayer would be the easiest to use.  Maybe something else would work better for me.

thanks again

Mplayer doesn't work with Xfbdev. You have to use Xvesa or Xfree.

Hi
Thanks but that doesn't seem to be my problem.  I just tried running it with Xvesa and again on an old laptop I have and got the same error.  There must be something else going on I don't know about.
Thanks again
