hi everyone,

sorry for the topic name mistake

i'm a linux noob but i'd like to make my sound card work under DSL !
after investigations it appears that my sound chip is a sis 7018

i'm running on livecd and sound is not working by booting "dsl"
so i tried "dsl alsa", installed alsa...
still did not work
so i tried sudo /etc/init.d/alsa-autoconfig trident
i have this error message : aumix: error opening mixer and it still doesn't work !

what should I do ?

thanks a lot

ALSA should not be necessary.  The OSS driver for your onboard SiS 7018 is trident.  Try this -
modprobe trident

If you want to try ALSA, boot with "dsl alsa=trident"
... or boot with "dsl alsa" then once booted -
modprobe snd-trident

Check your BIOS has "PnP OS = NO".
