Hi everyone,

Hello all, this is a confused noob with a problem and this problem has been plauging me for the past two days straight now. I have a Compaq Presario 42040ES with a Pentium II and 32mb of Ram from 1998. Its been inactive for three years now, but its still able to run damn small linux, and in fact it only accepts DSL, cause when I tried puppy linux on it and ubuntu it froze on startup, and when I tried Elive on it it said that ramdisk was out of space, and had a kernel panic. After installing DSL, I tried to run a dvd on the machine with mplay, but it stated that there was no audio device. I checked and I didnt have wmix on the machine, nor did ALSA work when I tried it. I have tried everything I have read on no sound  or audio on the forums, and I have checked the cd to see it is valid and it shows wmix on other machines, but not this one. I wish I could give you a HiJack This log, but there isnt a .dsl file for it anywhere, but hopefully I was wondering if someone had an idea about this.
