Hi, I've loaded DSL on an Amax Impression Elite laptop. Sound is "Ess Maestro2E" according to M$ device manager. Everything LOOKS great! The audio panel loads fine, voume controls all work, but no sound comes out- Running from Live CD Tried so far: Updated from 1.5 to 2.0 RC2 Made sure laptop volume is turned way up. SOund works under windows What would be my first steps in troubleshooting the issue? Posted by tempestuous on Nov. 19 2005,00:06
Run "lsmod" to see if the maestro module is loaded. If not, load it manually -modprobe maestro Make sure your bios is set for PnP OS = NO. Run "cat /proc/interrupts" to check for IRQ conflicts. Play an audio file from the commandline ... say, mpg321. Posted by smohrman on Nov. 19 2005,00:20
Tempestuous.....** Ran "lsmod"- maestro module is loaded. ** bios has no PnP OS setting. ** Ran "cat /proc/interrupts" to check for IRQ conflicts. No conflicts that I can see...though I'm not totally sure... The ESS Maestro has it's own interrupt (5). The results at bottom state: NMI: 0 LOC: 0 Err: 1 MIS: 0 Does ERR: 1 mean I have an interrupt problem? One last thing...dumb question, not sure how to run an audio file from the command line. Do I need to download one or are any sound files loaded when the live CD loads? I'm running the live CD with the "toram" parameter and it's fast! I appreciate your helping a noob : Posted by smohrman on Nov. 19 2005,00:30
I have sound! I don't know why though...I just opened xmms and clicked play for the heck of it and the classical music stream came right through... I have re-visted the webpages that have sound I need (an internal LAN monitoring page) and sounds don't play there. Prob a missing Firefox plug in- Thank you so much for your help. :-} |
