this is rather strange.. when i boot into DSL,  my wireless connection connects to the internet and then from there on until i shutdown it is constantly uploading from 1-5k/s.. i am basing this off of the very cool netgraph, but seeing how i'm not even using the internet and seeing upload activity worries me.. can someone tell me if they are having the same issue and what its uploading?

thanks a bunch!

My Wireless card is working fine, not uploading unless I'm actively doing something that would cause it.
wondering if you have something in your iwconfig thats got it constantly lookin at your router? anyway doubtful that its anything nefarious, probably just a networking issue.
Have you tried reconfiguring the card completely?
Also be sure to add -w to your wmnet and make sure its monitoring the correct device:
dsl@box>wmnet --help
will give you a big list of params to use, you can edit wich ones it loads with in the:
/mnt/hda2/home/dsl/xinitrc
my wmnet line looks like this for example:
wmnet -w --device ra0 &>/dev/null &
home that helps some.

To quote Saidin...

"On high volume/bandwidth networks, you will sometimes get what I call "tidal activity" which is usually just the traffic of the network maintaining itself.  The larger the network, the more activity there is to keep it all connected and runnin' "

thanks for the replies :-)

i believe it was just a network issue, i was using the school's wireless connection at the time.

at home it works normal

As a related?...recent side note, I'm now getting into using Rdesktop and Samba and have noticed that while connected to windoze boxes i get what fuzzy refers to as "tidal activity" i like his phrase so i'll borrow :blues: anyway I'm just wondering if your school is using some sort of MS ICS or something anyway nothing conflicting to add just more along the lines of me being able to replicate similar behavior.
