hi everyone i have the above modem
someone sugested i use port ttyS14 but i just get a device not found error
any help would be very appreciated

im using dsl 2.0 on a hd install and the modem used a generic softk56 driver underwindows

You have a winmodem.
Currently the only winmodem supported in DSL is Lucent.
I have in the past created PCTEL winmodem modules.

Some are freely available, some not so.
You would have to compile your particular driver, have someone else compile a driver for you using our 2.4.31 kernel sources, or
buy a real modem.

thats what i get for using the modem that came with my computer

ps. whats a good way to make sure its not a Winmodem?

If it is an External modem, then it is not a Winmodem.
