I can now put DSL online with the ndiswapper.  It seems to remember the rest of the network card settings from restore or they don't really matter.  After I boot from the CD and restore from the control pannel the network card wlan0 in not listed.
ndiswapper, the path to the .inf file, ssid, and the encryption key get the card running.

I would like to automate this.

Can you point me to how and where to write the script.

I'm learning the linux way but I have experience writing the old config.sys and autoexec.bat files.  I suspect it is a simmilar project with different syntax.

My wireless cards .inf and sys files are on the computers sata hd.  I don't know in the boot sequence when DSL needs those files.  I hope it is after the sata vfat partition is mounted.  If not, can they be on a floppy disk? I noticed expert mode ask if you want to load anything from floppy disks.

Thanks,

Mort

You can use the 'canned' ndiswrapper script under System>Net Setup>Ndiswrapper.  This should create a script in /opt that'll run each boot.  Alternatively, you can add your commands directly to /opt/bootlocal.sh or you can add a line here that'll run your script.

Using the Ndiswrapper GUI will make a script with your settings it is located in /opt/myndis.sh.
You can add that to your .filetool.lst and /opt/bootlocal.sh to automate your ndis device.
Or you may use the myndis.sh script as a model to edit and change to whatever you need, or copy and paste it in whole to /opt/bootlocal.sh

Thanks for the help.

Getting the wireless running seamlessly is a big step to making DSL a daily driver.  Spyware is forcing people away from the easy target OS to something more secure.  Cacheting, history files, cookies, and such are a secuity nightmare.  Your work on this distro as a live CD is the right track.  The in your pocket OS is the future.

Ok, here is the trick for sata hard drives any way.

run the ndiswapper gui and it generates the /opt/myndis.sh script.

The problem is that the path to the .inf file is not avilable as the sata drive is not mounted.  DSL must access the backup restore file in a different more direct manner.

I coppied the .inf and .sys file for the linksys card into the /opt directory, added those files to the .filetool.lst.  Edit the path from myndis.sh to the new /opt/bcmwl5.inf file.  I pasted the contents of myndis.sh into bootlocal.sh.
Run the backup switch from the gui.  Now when I load with the dsl sata toram restore=sda5 the wireless is up and running.

I think I can refine the configuration with the Iwconfig and get a fixed address but it's connected now!  DSL is now my daily driver

Thanks

Mort.
