I can get it up, I just can't keep it upForum: Networking Topic: I can get it up, I just can't keep it up started by: momac Posted by momac on Jan. 19 2006,09:24
Just feedback for those maintaining the distribution...Same prob here with ndiswrapper and MN-7** type wireless. Worked well with earlier versions of DSL and mn720-ankh drivers. Now I get random freezing after initializing the wireless NIC (on several different desktops using various installs). Freeze kills all keyboard/mouse control. Only way out is hard reset. Other than this MAJOR problem, I absolutely think this is going to become a great distribution. I am looking forward to spending more time with it when I can get the network initialization stable. Does booting with:dsl noapic acpi=off nosmp help? Posted by Momac on Jan. 19 2006,21:02
It doesn't appear to change the symptoms. Random interval freeze after <1 hr. Usually within 10 minutes or so. Always happens after enabling the connection via ndiswarpper. I haven't found that I actually have to have a browser open for the freezes to occur. One desktop worked with Debian 3.1 (but I found the system bloated so I am trying to work this out.) So I assume that the lockups do not happen if you never turn ON ndiswrapper?

Correct. It appears that as long as I do not try to enable the wireless connection via ndiswrapper I may cruise comfortably around the desktop launching various apps as desired.I've fallen back to 1.5 on one desktop I was trying to get running with 2.1. Works great and seems quite stable. Seems as though this follows closely to ndiswrapper problems in a few other threads. Ask away for trouble symptoms. I'll do all I can to help. thanks for the reply, mike Posted by momac on Jan. 28 2006,12:08
All looks back to normal in v2.2. Thank you, cbagger01, for your efforts in trying to help.
