USB network adaptor

Has anyone had success getting a USB network adapter to work? I'm trying to get DSL to run on an old laptop, and one of my problems is that I don't seem to have network connectivity.

Sidenote: It's hard to tell because I'm also having problems with screen resolution and detecting the mouse. The screen resolution thing is weird: sometimes it boots into a mode that looks perfect (not sure what rez it is, 1024 I think), other times I have to go through the selection screen and I have apparently guessed wrong every time because I get variations on a theme of "unusable".

I can't help you with the usb network adaptor, but try for the laptop resolution try booting with 'fb800x600' at the prompt and then selecting Xfbdev.
