My Portege 3040 notebook has a Lucent Mars winmodem built in which I have never used before. I read that there is LT Winmodem support in current DSL and see a "LT Winmodem detected" message when DSL2.3 boots up. Is it just a case of configuring in PPPsetup or is there more I need to do to get this working?

If it was detected it should work.
You should also have a /dev/modem linked to /dev/ttyS14 for the winmodem

Use the DialUp from the control panel should get you going.
