I'm trawling the net studying hardening my system & networking.
     I've got a desktop pc connected to the net via an Alcatel Speedtouch 330 usb modem.
     I aspire to plug a D-link DWL-900AP+ wap, into my desktop NIC, and then connect my desktop to my laptop (via D-link DWL-650+ pcmcia in laptop.)
     I'm TRAWLING through STACKS of EXCELLENT information (aboutdebian.com, NET3-4-HOWTO, Ethernet-HOWTO, Wireless-HOWTO, yolinux.com., etc., etc., etc., etc.)
I am sure that I will eventually grasp it, however, I'd be very grateful if some folks would spare some concise words of wisdom on clarifying all this, sort of, in a nutshell, A plugs into B and connects via this file, B plugs into C and connects via this file.
     I am after an OVERview like explaining the principle/theory to an 8 year old, this would really help me along.
P.s., I've no GUI installed (I'm aspiring to build a wireless community network.)

Oh yeah, and I'm reading debian-reference.
I think the wireless-HOWTO isn't up to scratch, pity, seen as everythings going wireless.

Another way somebody could help me is to suggest to me which is the de facto cheap as chips most popular for linux wireless access point so I can trawl all that and get beneficial info.

Or should I not be trying to;
net>usb_modem>desktop>wap>laptop

Should I be trying to;
net>wap>

bearing in mind that I aspire to build wireless community network.
