can someone give some advice on how to conect a dsl machine to the internet using  a proxy Debian based server through the serial port ( the DEBIAN site describes how to do it using the parallel port so I assume it can be done using the serial port.
any help would be appreciated.

Maybe SLIP (Serial Line Internet Protocol) will work:

thank you very much cbagger01 ,I will try it tomorrow ; I just came from a 4 hour drive and I am half dead.
