I am real a real newbie to Linux (but not comuters) and need some Networking help - please. I am running DSL on a old old P166 computer w/ 32 M RAM. It has a new Dlink 538TX eth0 adapter attached to Dlink 614+ router. I have two other computers connected to the router (XP and Win98 that I sometimes run with Knoppix 4). I have NO netwrok problems with either of these 2 computers. BUT, the P166 is giving me grief. I have two problems

1. THe Dlink 538TX adapter does not seem able to obtain an IP address automatically form the 614+ router. It does not work with Win98 OR DSL. Again my other 2 computers (one of which I sometimes run with Knoppix 4) has no problem. Any ideas? Could it be a bad Adapter card?

2. So I mangaed to more or less configure the 538TX card manually in DSL with NetConfig. I can ping the other computers and they can ping this one (though oddly when I ping from the P166 machine to one of the others, ALL of the lights on the router flash NOT just the one I am pinging to). BUT I cannot resolve any DNS or even connect outside of my network to the Internet using IP addresses. What have I missed???

Thank you for any help!!

Problem Solved How you ask. After days literally days trying to reolve this issue I was looking through the Knoppix Networking Forum. Someone mentine something about Locking MAC addresses.

So I thought I would look at my Dlink Configuration. I am a security fanatic and sure enough, many many many months ago I setup the router to allow only certain MAC addresses into my network. Once I added my new adapter I was instantly able to 1)obtain an IP address automatically from the router and 2) connect to the Internet.

So another one solved. Hope this helps someone else.
