For my laptop, I picked up one of these pcmcia wireless lan cards today.Plugged it in, booted DSL, and it worked... Or so I thought.. figured I had to set the wep, but NO... Well.. almost... Lights Up... !!! When you bootup it shows.... cardmgr[59]: starting, version is 3.1.33 cardmgr[59]: watching 2 sockets cardmge[59]: Card Service release does not match cardmgr[59]: Socket 0 : PROXIM Rangelan-DS/LAN PC CARD cardmgr[59]: executing: 'modprobe prism2_cs' cardmgr[59]: executing: './wlan-ng start wlan0' cardmgr[59]: + debian network setup cardmgr[59]: + /sbin/ifup wlan0 cardmgr[59]: + ifup ignoring unknown interface wlan0 and when you shutdown ....... cardmgr[59]: executing: './wlan-ng stop wlan0' cardmgr[59]: + /sbin/ifdown wlan0 cardmgr[59]: + ifdown: Ignoring unknown interface wlan0 cardmgr[59]: + /sbin/ifconfig wlan0 down cardmgr[59]: executing: 'modprobe -r prism2_cs I've searched thru the forums for some details. Most posts tell of either great success or failure/compile driver... Any ideas? Seems like I'm real close... The driver is listed in dmesg as the prism2_cs irq3 io=0x0100 - 0x013f < http://www.directron.com/rangelands.html]Proxim > RangeLAN-DS 802.11b Wireless PCMCIA 73 ke4nt Posted by ke4nt1 on July 24 2004,10:02

I FINALLY got this wireless card working....<<EDIT>> I'm guessing this will work for ANY prism2 chipset. GIve it a try, and feecback... <</EDIT>> wlcardconfig just dies, it says no wireless card found. iwconfig usually shows nothing lo - no wireless extensions netcardconfig shows no network card found.. Using some other tools I found gave me the results posted earlier in this thread, but no wireless connection .. Boo.. Here's what I did to get this prism2 chipset working.. type in a shell as sudo su... "wlanctl-ng wlan0 lnxreq_ifstate ifstate=enable" <enter> and the shell reports... "message=lnxreq_ifstate ifstate=enable resultcode=success now, type "wlanctl-ng wlan0 lnxreq_autojoin ssid=linkkor authtype=opensystem" <enter> and the shell reports... "message=lnxreq_autojoin ssid='linksys' authtype=opensystem resultcode=success" Now, I go to the "netcardconfig" option in the menu, It asks me to try DHCP, click "yes" It reports "OK" and I'm ONLINE .... totally unsecure, but it's a start.. WOOHOO !! now to get the wep code in there too.. maybe add it to the last line before running netcardconfig.. YES,YES,YES.. give my creation LIFE AAAHAHAHHAA 73 ke4nt Posted by ke4nt1 on July 31 2004,22:55

Good Man!! I have been fighting with a 3com card which gave the same problems as your card, could be rebranded, and with two lines in the console it works!!! Thanks a ton!Ian Posted by AwPhuch on Oct. 26 2004,16:52
