Okay, I've got DSL installed now and running on my cobbled together machine. It runs really well, installation went fine etc.However, my new challenge is getting the wireless card to work, so I can actually download everything else that I need without piggy-backing my main computer.
Connecting through my main computer is a real pain as well, since I don't have an ethernet bridge cable, so I need to use my router, which is connected to a wireless router that the main machine (and the DSL machine) uses. The result is having to download files onto my main machine, then unplug the router and cables, bring it upstairs and plug it in there, just to transfer the files across and find that they don't work either
Anyway, I've so far attempted to use ndiswrapper as per < this guide >, however it isn't working at all. The driver installs fine, it complains that the hardware was not detected. Which is odd, because the card is listed quite clearly in the PCI tab of System Stats.
However, I'm uncertain if it has differing requirements or what, as my card is the european version opposed to US (so the number of channels available would be different), I just don't understand why it isn't showing up AT ALL, the PCI bridge is getting power and the card appears in working order (as far as I can tell, the lights on it only come on when it's busy but it doesn't have anything to do yet).
So, what I'm hoping for is some fairly easy instructions on what to try or alternatives to install to get this thing working? For example, I found the RT2500 driver (the card is listed in System Stats as a RaLink RT2500 card), but I have no idea what I'm supposed to do in order to install it. Or what to do afterwards in order to set it up, the site for those drivers is rather useless as far as instructions go
Any help is greatly appreciated! As this is the final hurdle to getting everything set-up, as afterwards it's just apache etc, which I got to work quite easily under emulation on my main machine so I don't foresee any trouble there (plus I know what I'm doing with Apache).

Another user with a RT2500 wireless card. Another good reason to add support for the RT2500 cards into DSL as standard.

Same here . I have been trying for 3 days to get the drivers installed and the card working. I am sure it is my ineptness. Any help?What we need a is a how to written in plain english for us noobs.
I think I have the ndis wrapper part figured out but I cant get my card to be detected. I think there is a file I need to add a line to at boot.
Can someone tell me what file and what to add?
I am running DSL from cf card. (woot!), and its the belkin wirless g usb card FSD7050
I think i need to add something to a file at bot?

Any more luck on this? Finally back to wanting to set my machine up again but it's currently just sitting here dormant since I can't connect it via ethernet from where I want it.

G'Day all,I just recently got a RT2500 card working, and like you guys it was quite frustrating.
The key is to get the exact driver, and then it works no problems. That driver list on ndiswrapper site has quite a few RT2500 cards, and they all look like they should work, but if you look closely they have different version numbers etc.
You need to get the one that matches your card exectly.
Try 'lspci' and look at the description of your card. It will be RT2500 rev3, or rev2 or something. It will also show some numbers (i don't exactly know what they are, I think they are some sort of pci identification) that look something like "1814:0301".
Go to the ndiswrapper driver list and look for an exact match. Once I got the driver that matched these numbers it worked perfectly.
When you look at "ndiswrapper -l", if you don't see the "hardware present" it won't work. When you see this you should be good to go.
Just another quick tip that gave me much angst, all the "How to's" said that when you issue "modprobe ndsiwrapper" the green light on the card should come on. Mine didn't so I spent much time thinking it still wasn't working. iwconfig seems to default to "Security: Restricted", but in my router I use "Open" security. As soon as I changed it to "Open", it associated with the router and the green light came on. (and a joyous moment it was too

Everything's up and running at last, well, except for drive mirroring, still not sure on that one
