Devicescape holds the promise of doing away with Linux wireless device driver woes, but the question remains whether a backport to the 2.4 kernel is imminent:

Devicescape sounds promising, but only if vendors decide to use its api to write their drivers. If everyone doesn't play along, and what a shock they might not, this will simply be another really cool idea that didn't happen. ™

On the other hand, they already cover atheros out of the box. That alone makes them a defacto standard considering the number of cheap wifi cards out there using that chipset.
