Speedtouch 510 modem - can't get DSL to connect toForum: Networking Topic: Speedtouch 510 modem - can't get DSL to connect to started by: patslap Posted by patslap on May 24 2006,22:30
DSL installed fine, but it can't seem to find my Speetouch 510 Ethernet modem which is permanently connected to internet. I've tried to connect using PPP to search Eth0 and Eth1 but it reports errors. I'm wondering whether my 'dsl noscsi' option at boot is affecting this. (I need to dsl noscsi otherwsie dsl crashes at boot time while searching for scsi devices)Can anyone help? Posted by Trog Dog on May 27 2006,11:17
What are the errors being reported?

I open DSL Panel, select PPPoE. A window pops up saying: "I found 1 ethernet device(s):\neth0\n\n Are all your ethernet interfaces listed above?\n(If No, modconf will be started so you can load the card drivers manually).\n\nOr press Ctrl-C to abort here." If I press No, then the above message reappears. If I press Yes a window called "Scanning Device" pops up. It states "Looking for PPPoE access concentrator on Eth0" followed by another pop-up window called "Not Connected" This window says "Sorry, I scanned 1 interface(s), but the Access Concentrator of your provider did not erspond. Please check the network card and modem cables. Another reason for the scan failure may be another running pppoe process which controls the modem" I do not know how I can search for other running pppoe processes. Thanks for any help you might be able to offer. Posted by Trog Dog on May 28 2006,13:39
First up start firefox and type in < http://10.0.0.138 > you should then get a login screen, login, and select diagnostics make sure that your speedtouch is showing that its wan connection is ok.If you can't get a login screen, then open a terminal window, type ifconfig and post your results. Hi, I've tried to connect to < http://10.0.0.138 > from Firefox's address bar, but no joy - it can't resolve address. So I ran ifconfig and got the following: Apologies for image post rather than cut-and-pasted text, but am having printer problems in DSL, too! Sorry for taking so long to reply. Run ifconfig -a (open Aterminal and type ifconfig -a).If you see a listing for eth0 - similar to the listing for lo, then type the following into Aterm
If you see both interfaces listed (eth0 & lo) after doing the above, then you should be up and running. HTH Posted by patslap on June 11 2006,23:00
Many thanks - that solved it! Connected to web and am typing this in DSL!Now I just need to work out why my MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum won't boot from USB pendrive. There is a Phoenix BIOS update available, but I'm concerned about the risks of flashing the BIOS. Hmmm. If I can either be brave or get around this problem, how can I ensure that when booting from USB drive, the ifconfig eth0 up command runs automatically? Really appreciate your help Trog Dog. patslap. DSL only boots from pendrive as USB-HDD when plugged into USB ports at back of PC. Front ports (easy-access) do not work).Even if booting from CD, the internet connection is always up in DSL without any further configuration. Thanks, patslap Posted by Trog Dog on June 18 2006,05:30
Glad you got it all working in the end.
