DHCP works fine using LiveCD, not HD Install.Forum: Networking Topic: DHCP works fine using LiveCD, not HD Install. started by: Coopsta Posted by Coopsta on June 28 2006,13:15
First up, Hi to all of ya.Really hope someone can point me in the right direction, not having much luck searching the forums and FAQ's. Ill post my installing DSL later as a page on tip's and tricks hopefully pointing out some of the trials I've had getting DSL going. For the record, I used the < FrugalHowto > to install DSL with 3 partitions as stated. But I've come to a head with getting a LILO-Frugal install; infact any HD install, to use DHCP broadcast to detect a Dynamic/Static IP address from my router. LiveCD works out of the Cd tray as in recoqnizing either a Dynamic IP, or even a Static one I setup. But on a HD install, nothing, so I did a netcardconfig, ask's me if I use DHCP broadcast and that fails. So, I tried setting it manually, with a Static IP setup on the router too eth0 = 192.168.0.121 net mask = 255.255.255.0 broadcast add = 192.168.0.255 Default GW = 192.168.0.254(Wasn't sure the last bit was right so I tried 0.1 aswell to no avail) DNS Servers = 62.**.144.** 192.168.0.1 Now this does bring up a 192.168.0.121 IP on my 'host: box' but just get refused connection in FFox and pinging 192.168.0.1 fails too? I've tried backing up my settings using Backup/Restore (but that ain't saving the settings, even though it says it's backing em up on reboot/shutdown to hda2), hoping I just needed to reboot for the IP to stick Ive changed the boot up options in the initial frugal b-options and/or the lilo.conf to be the same as the LiveCD boot options as in nomce/noapic(Ain't sure what H/W these disable if anyone wants to enlighten me), but again nah-dah. Anyway, if you need anymore more info, please ask, and thanks in advance for any help. Regards, Coops. |
