Downloading with Firefox

I have DSL installed frugal on my HD. When I try to download a file with firefox the download finishes instantly (as though it were dowloading an empyt folder) and then appears in the downloads list. When I click "open" it just sits there and does nothing.

Firefox is set to download to "Desktop." My instinct tells me this is wrong.

You can either make a folder named Desktop or move the download to somewhere else. I usally just create a tmp folder because i always use the same .mozilla for all my distro's and it's set to download to tmp.

And do I have to add that folder to filetool.lst in order to keep from loosing my downloads on reboot?
