DSL 3.0.1 on LiveCD
Using ndiswrapper, driver LSIPNDS.INF shows to install.
Essid is set correctly.
Lights on the card flash indicating traffic.
Tx/Rx packets exchanged without dropped packets.
MAC addresses for AP and Wireless card are correct.
Encryption is WEP 64 bit but, doesn't apprear to be set as iwconfg wlan0 shows Encryption: Off.

Will not DHCP.
Set up Static IP and Gateway.
Will not ping AP.

Output of ifconfig:

Warning: Driver for device wlan0 recommend Version 18 of Wireless Extension, but has been complied with Version 16, therefore some driver functions may not be avaiable...

What is the Wireless Extension? ndiswrapper

Do I need an updated copy of ndiswrapper?

Has anyone made this Linksys WMP11 V4 work?

Encryption is 64 bit but doesn't appear to be set. That doesn't sound good. Do you mean that your AP requires a WEP key, but that you are having a hard time getting it set in DSL? If so, I think that is your problem.

First, get your connection working without any encryption. Always always always!, especially if you are having difficulties. Turn the encryption of your AP off, and the encryption of your DSL box. Try to get that working. Only after it works can you start playing with WEP.

As for the wireless extension warning, I get that in DSL-N RC2, but my card still works. I'm not sure exactly what it means.

Have you looked at < http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/mediawiki/index.php/List >
? If not, it might be helpful. No one reporting has tested with DSL, but there is a Debian Sid and FC5. The one using debian (DSL is debian based) says he needed to load three drivers for his one card. Might be worth looking into.

Good luck.

Partial Solution.
Am now talking over a neighbors hub w/o encryption. This is from DSL and the problem child wireless card.
Next, I will shut encryption off on my hub and give it another try.

Once sucessful, I'll post a play by play.

Thanks for the tip, Winter Knight

When you enter the WEP key try colon separated pairs, i.e.,

9F:9F:9F:9F:....

roberts, could not get WEP to work using colons to seperate the key elements.

DSL ndiswrapper implementation for the Linksys WMP11_V4 PCI Wireless B card.
This card is supplied with the INPROCOMM IPN2120 Chipset.
I have been unable to get WEP encryption to work.
Also, be aware that you are writing to hardware registers that can receive bad data that can shut the card down. The only way to start over is to power down and up. I wasted much time trying to make the card work only to finally power down and up.

Most of the below came from:

1.Download and place the driver files where they can be reached by DSL.
2.Use ndiswrapper -i  /mnt/hda1/working/lsipnds.inf  to install the driver. Assumes hda1 is mounted the driver is in a directory named working.
3.Use ndiswrapper -l to list the installed driver. lsipnds  driver present, hardware present
4.The sourceforge wiki says to  depmod -a.  DSL could not process because of read/write protections but, it didn't seem to matter.
5.Use modprobe ndiswrapper to make the driver active.  Both green LEDs on the card should be on. The LED on the left, while looking at the antenna should be flashing.
6.Use dmesg to list logging of the driver and module installation.
7.Use iwlist wlan0 scan to list the access points the card can find.
8.Use iwconfig wlan0 essid ESSID associate the card with your access point.
9.Use ifconfig wlan0 up to connect the card to the network interface.
10. Use netcardconfig or another tool to cause DHCP polling of the hub. The response should be OK.
If anyone knows how to make WEP encryption work with this card, please let me know.
