I know this is not a "new" topic but I am certain there are plenty of people, like myself, who are frustrated to the MAX.  Can anyone give a definitive sequence and the correct commands to get a wireless USB Dongle functioning.  I have scoured so many forums for the answer and all list different commands, different options to same command, and all in a different order.  There has to be a standard method.  I understand that different Distros are setup a little different but the underlying code has to be similar.  I am using an old Dell Laptop (266 mghtz, 198 MB Ram, 3.8 Gig HD) & a 2Wire USB dongle to setup a Linux box and DSL & DSL-N are perfect for it.  At this point I am more interested in a Command Line answer as it will help with other Distros but if the GUI method is all there is I'll gladly go that route.  Thank You in advance, I really appreciate it.

P.S.  I don't know if this is the correct Forum for this question, if not I apologize for my error.

Hello,

Someone may be able to help if you tell us the vendor and product ID of your network adapter.

Insert your dongle, open ATerminal and type "lsusb".
The vendor and product codes are two four digit numbers separated by a colon.

An example listing follows:
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0846:4110 NetGear, Inc.

Also, please let us know which DSL version you're using.

I have a similar problem, with a Belkin USB Adapter.

Bus 001 Device 002: ID 050d:0050 Belkin Components

I would love to use a GUI to configure this, as it for my friend's computer and he knows NOTHING about linux.

I am running Linux 2.4.26 on i586, if this helps.
