I am using DSL 3.3 live CD and have an Proxim 8470wd pcmcia card in laptop.  I can't get ifconfig to work, it just hangs in the root terminal.  Looking in emelfm KNOPPIX/sbin it is the color blue, but commands that work, like iwconfig, are green.  What is the difference and what can I do to get it to work?

By default, blue = directories, green = executable bit is set.

Just run "ifconfig" from console.

Thank you for the reply.  I am using the console as root, but nothing happens.  The cursor goes to the next line and just hangs.  My card shows up under iwconfig with all the info.  It uses the built in madwifi drivers and the power light is on, but I can't enable it.  If I use the DSLpanel, Wlanconfig, it shows ath0, I click ok, and it just hangs.

I lost for what to do.

fyi - I can use ifconfig in DSL 3.3 embedded.  I don't understand why that works, but either the live cd or installed won't?????

Then something is conflicting with your device/driver.  Maybe you need updated ones or your specific device isn't supported?  Could check dmesg.

btw, embedded runs under the qemu sandbox - the hardware is emulated, and therefore doesn't see your wifi card.
