Hi,

To connect a Thinkpad 600, DSL 4.0 HDinstall, to a wlan I bought a D-Link DWL-G650 PCMCIA card, because  the DSL Wiki listed the card as "works out of the box".

But it does not.

The card is in socket 1 and the light for "act" is blinking.
The light for "link" is dead.

wlcardconfig does not see the card.

The PCMCIA tool status:
socket 1:
3.3V CardBus card
function 0: [ready]

The PCMCIA tool config:

Socket 1:
Vcc 3.3V Vpp1 3.3V Vpp2 3.3V
irq 11 [exclusive] [level]
function: 0

The PCMCIA tool ident:

Socket 1:
product info: "Atheros Communications, Inc.", "AR5001-0000-0000", "Wireless LAN Reference Card", "00"
manfid: 0x0271, 0x0012
function: 6 (network)

The iwconfig tool lists:

device: eth0
channel: 6

When I enter the ESSID it says connection failed

I read all the related posts here, but either they have other problems or the solutions offered are plain Chinese to me, I'm a user.

Could some one please be s kind and help with a user-oriented answer?

Thanks!

Could you still describe what problem you had, for others who might have the same issue and search this forum?

You want me to make a fool out of myself?  :)

All right:
First I used the same PCMCIA socket for the WLan card,
that was used for an ethernet card before. That created an
IRQ conflict.
Thus, all attempts via ndiswrapper and prism2 to
get the card going failed.

So I took the card out and rebooted.

I placed the card in the other socket.

Opened a terminal and entered:

"sudo ifconfig ath0 up"
"sudo pump -i ath0"

That was it, the connection was there and working.

Pls note, the router is open and does not require WEP or WPA keys.
Instead it uses a MAC address white list, thus blocking all attempts to connect from non listed wlan cards.
