Access DSL PC from anotherForum: Networking Topic: Access DSL PC from another started by: phigon Posted by phigon on Nov. 03 2004,20:21
After I boot up my machine into DSL(which is on my LAN), I would like to know exactly what I need to do from another PC(Win98 or WinXP) in my network to access the DSL machine. Or vice-versa for that matter. From the DSL machine itself I can get on the web and browse, mount my harddrive....etc. But I am having difficuly seeing other PC's on the LAN from the DSL machine or vice-versa. I don't know linux that well but would ultimately like to set up a machine , boot into DSL, and use this as my print server or just for storage.

Get the Samba.dsl It is alot like network neighborhood on M$ Brian AwPhuch Posted by phigon on Nov. 04 2004,02:05
Ok I loaded samba.dsl. I got linneighbourhood running and was able to mount a drive from my Winxp machine and browse it. I wasn't able to browse my Win98 machine though. Also I wasn't able to see the DSL machine from my xp or 98 machine. What else needs to be running on the DSL machine if anything? Thanks Posted by henk1955 on Nov. 04 2004,11:16
are your windows pc and your dsl in the same workgroup/domain?you could try to "add" the computer you dont see. Posted by phigon on Nov. 04 2004,13:18
yes they are in the same workgroup. I think I set that in the Linneighbourhood app. I also tried to search for the DSL machine from my XP and 98 machine and it didn't see it.

you have to configure the samba server and set some shares to have your dsl visible to the otherslook in /opt/samba/smb.conf |
