DSL9.2/usr9510b It sounds like it's going to do it, then fails and exits. There is an error message about permissions (?), otherwise this is a mystery. This is the same behaviour I saw in DSL8.1.1, but there I could open a shell and type something like ppp go or pon or some such, and it would connect, but have forgotten the command. I see that others have the same problem, isn't it time to fix this? BTW I am not a newby. Posted by ryptyde on Jan. 10 2005,03:36
I am using DSL 0.9.2 and a USR 5610B and Dillo to post this.I went to: system>net setup>dial-up PPP and a gui PPP Dial box opens, click on config and PPPconfig utility opens. Just d'loaded DSL 0.9.2 yesterday and after reading your post thought I'd better try it to see if worked the same as previous releases that I've tried. I have been using DSL since ver 0.8.0 and don't recall having any major problems connecting via dial-up although I have had to manually assign my modem com port as "/dev/ttyS4". Um .I did the same, tried pap, chat and chap, IIRC they all seemed the same. I have the same modem, got the number wrong, it IS the USR5610b. Wonder if it could be the ISP? Posted by clivesay on Jan. 10 2005,16:59
Have you tried using the port that ryptyde references? Posted by xktz on Jan. 10 2005,17:09
Well, piss me off!I tried it again, laboriously wrote in longhand everything I did to config, and everything that seemed to be an error message. Same result. Tried it again. It worked I'm now writing this from DSLv9.2/firefox This gotta be either crossed wires in my brain or that quantum effect called sympathetic magic. If it's the latter, it because someone answered. Thanks, ryptyde. FWTW here's the error stuff(?). ---box local2.warn pppd [642]: Couldn't restrict write permissions to /dev/ttyS4: Read-only file system then farther down it says: send (ATDT 4497775circumflexM) expect (CONNECT) circumflexM alarm Failed Connect script failed Exit Posted by clivesay on Jan. 10 2005,17:14
I usually suffer from fatfingeritis Great to hear you are up and running! Posted by xktz on Jan. 11 2005,15:45
Still erratic - works on the second try though.

Glad you got it working and hope you figure out what's causing the "erratic" behavior.
