PCMCIA only works after re-inserting cardForum: Networking Topic: PCMCIA only works after re-inserting card started by: kaboom Posted by kaboom on Feb. 02 2005,20:31
I have a XIRCOM RBE-100 card that will not come on when I boot up. After cardmgr, I see an error about not finding tulip_cb. However, if I remove the card and re-insert it, it comes on, afterwhich I can run netcardconfig and use DHCP to obtain an IP address. This happens on the livecd and a hd-install. The laptop is a Toshiba Portege 7010.Does anyone have any Ideas why that would happen? Posted by gmandual on Feb. 03 2005,03:59
Getting the specifics of the error would help. From your description there is a failure loading the:xircom_tulip_cb.o Module at boot. Which could be caused by a number of things. AFter booting up from DSL, go to a console prompt and: dmesg > /ramdisk/output Then go through and look through the output file. There should be all the events from bootup. FInd the content from the point where it says: "Linux Kernel Card Services" After that a way you should see messages about the module trying to load. Posted by kaboom on Feb. 03 2005,18:49
I think I've got it. After logging in I can run modprobe xircom_cb then run netcardconfig to get an IP address. I think I can handle it from here.

I have also got a xircom which dsl finds just fine, seems to load the driver yet when it tries to get an IP addy from the router it fails. I used a mepis tool that sets up adsl/ppoe stuff, i guess it probed teh card & found it cuz it worked after that. The same thing is happening in mepis/dsl/hikarunix (dsl offshoot). In mepis the cards not detected on boot i think; in the dsl's its found but doesn't have any out/inbound traffic coming thru.how do you do this modprobe thingy & if it works, how can i get that tto happen at boot up time on mepis/dsl? aveline |
