HOW DO I CONNECT WITH DIAL UP. NETZERO IS MY PROVIDER

YOU CAN'TThat was the simple answer. I suppose it's possible, but it would require the ability to connect without using the NetZero software, which is unlikely. Posted by newOldUser on Feb. 18 2005,20:42
Mikshaw is correct. Until Netzero provides a linux client program you can't directly connect from DSL.Now here's the big "IF" IF you have a second computer that is running windows and can connect to Netzero and IF your computers are networked you can use a small freeware proxy server ( I used this one: < AnalogX Proxy Server > ) I use to do this. The windows box runs the proxy server and makes the call to the ISP (in your case NetZero). The linux box gets to the internet through the proxy server on the windows box. It's just short of duct tape and kite string but it works. Good luck Posted by RedOscar on May 24 2005,14:47
On a hard drive install of DSL, I feel quite confident that you can access a NetZero account. NetZero has a .deb available that I have successfully used in both Mepis and Libranet. The setups were slightly different between those distributions, but similar enough that I figured it out. I recommend you visit the Mepis forums for more information. One thing that was kinda kludgely was that I had to use sudo because the NetZero software has to be run as root. You can thank Linspire for that mess because I believe they developed the software. Anyway, I did this setup for my nephew, and have somehow lost my notes of the exact details. But again, visit the Mepis forums to get started. Red |
