The smallest internet least cost router (ilcr) for modem users I could find is < dialow >. Current version is 0.08.

Installation went without problems as only make from gcc1.dsl is needed.

But I could not figure it out how to get the scripts to run. There where too many errors using gawk.

These are the requirements of dialow:
    dialog      Version: 1.8.1
    gawk        Version: 3.1.0
    sed         Version: 3.02
    pon/pppd    Version: 2.4.1
    chat        Version: 1.22
    bash        Version: 2.05a.0(1)

Any ideas of how to get an ilcr to run?

Thanks from

OK, I do not want to keep the solution for me. With the help of the author of dialow and installing new packages for gawk (gawk_3.1.4-2_i386.deb), dialog (dialog_1.0-20050116-1_i386 .deb) and libncurses5 (libncurses5_5.4-4_i386.deb) I could manage to run dialow without problems on my DSL HD installation.

i dont know if it is allowed to point you to other linux distros, but i run the super tiny linux distro calll, "coyote linux" as my firewall/router....it is small enough to fit and run on a single 3.5inch floppy.  the main function is router firewall type stuff so it already has everything needed for the basic low cost internet router...in fact you dont need a cd rom or hard drive...just a old mobo, 2 network cards, a video card a floppy drive...there is tons more info on the site, it is simply www.coyotelinux.com
