Hi,

I know this question is very similar to others that have been posted, but I've not come across an answer yet.

I've got a Buffalo Technology WLI-CB-G54L PCMCIA card, and I can't get it to work. It just doesn't seem to be recognised by the system at all - the lights don't come on, and typing cardctl info produces this output:

PRODID _1=""
PRODID _2=""
PRODID _3=""
PRODID _4=""
MANFID=0000,0000
FUNCID=255

twice over, which I'm interpreting as meaning there are no cards plugged in, since when I plug in a Xircom modem card its details come up OK.

I've tried using Ndiswrapper to install the windows driver, and it seems to work, but tells me that there is "No Hardware"
Similarly running Wlanconfig produces a message "No wireless network card found"

This is very disappointing as I was hoping to use DSL to resurrect my ancient Toshiba laptop (a satellite 300cds) to use as a mobile web browser, and it was looking very promising up to this point.

Is there something I have to do to switch the card on somehow? Or does this card just not work with DSL?

All advice would be deeply appreciated.

Thanks, I've got the card working now - the problem had nothing to do with linux - I needed to change the BIOS settings of the machine, as it had been set only to work with 16-bit cards.

I've run wlanconfig, and entered the network details.

However I'm still not on the network - when I run networkconfig, it asks if I want to use DHCP broadcast, to which I reply yes, since that's what the router uses, but I just get back the message "Operation failed".

Is there some step I have missed out?

Try ifconfig wlan0
ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
I found the one card I use kept gettig the wrong mask 255.255.0.0 instead of 255.255.255.0
there is probably a type error on your part as was my case
Check all settings
Do you have connection on other machine Some routers need reset when you play with wireless they like to lockup!

I was no sure where to put this request, since I have 2 issues one deals with the pcmcia/wireless card and the other deals with a ead only issue after installing to a USB key; or if booting from CD. I have a wireless pcmcia USR5410 network card. After booting from the CD, it is like the  pcmcia card is not detected
at all. I think the pcmcia slot is detected, becuase if I
eject the wireless card the system will beep. I went to the USR support website, which directs me to
< linuxant >.
From here I downloaded the driver, dldrinstall.run.
When running this from xterminal, it loads a browser, which requires root access (I had to set a root password to get
this to work). It attempts to install something,
but I get access denied. I assumed this is because
the CD would be seen as read only. So I decided to install to my 256 USB Key. I followed the directions in both threads
< First USB install thread > and at
< Second USB install thread >. Since my laptop
does not support USB booting (Dell Inspiron 2650) I used the bootusb image and created an image to boot from the Key.
When trying both of these install methods, the file system still seems to be read only, as I still can not install the driver.
I noticed after booting, the contents of the USB are in /cdrom, I would think the
contents would either be at /dev/sda1 or /dev/hda1. I have also used the dsl tora command to see if everything was in ramdisk,
I would still get the read error, which I do. Is there
anyway to resolve the read only so I can install the wireless cards drivers? I would really like to get my wireless adapter working,as this is the only reason I have not made a
complete switch to DSL. Any help is really appreciated.

Let me know what additional information you need and I will post.

Try either running sudo mkwritable
or installing any *.dsl extension file.

Then try and install your drivers.

Ok, I tried running through your suggestions cbagger01.
Option 1:
When I use the command sudo  mkwritable, I get command not found.
Option 2:
If you are referring to the options in the MyDSL, I am able to install packages.

After doing this, I am now not able to run the script. Now when ever I try to run the sh script, I get  "Error in MD5 checksums: the Id's  are diferent. I have tried to download the script again but to no luck.
