Hello. I would like to know whether i'm able to make an USB-IRDA (infra) GPRS-connection between my phone (Siemens ME45) and my computer (Celeron 400 MHz, 64 MB RAM) by means of the DSL. Is it possible? There are many Windows-drivers on that CD what i received together with the USB infra-port but there aren't Linux-drivers at all. The DSL is on my HD and it's working perfectly, but i would like to create a GPRS-internet ... if it's possible, of course. I'm a newbie regarding Linux and DSl coze it was only 2 days ago when i tried it the first time. I would like very grateful if somebody helped me. Thanx.

A quick google search turned up this:

Try searching for "ME45 Linux" on Google for help.

Thank you very much, cbagger01! I made a Google-search, too ... and i think that the web-address what you gave me ( < http://stp.ling.uu.se/~perweij/priv/main/siemens_gprs_irda_djuice.html > ) : it's one of the best pages  in connection with Linux with USB-IRDA and Me45. I tried to follow carefully those steps which are written down there: "You should have the irda-utils and the ppp-package installed (which contains pppd)." Well, i found a page ( < http://irda.sf.net > ) and a link there: < http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=5616 > . It's the link of The Linux-IrDA Project from where we are able to download the necessary irda-utils. (At least i think that this is the same "irda utils" what was mentioned above.) I chose the irda util package 0.9.16 ( < http://belnet.dl.sourceforge.net/sourcef.....tar.gz > ) and MY PROBLEM is that i'm unable to install it ... i don't know how to do it. I can see that there are many subdirectories inside it ... and there are 3 files in the root directory: "Makefile", "irda-utils.spec", "Readme". (I use Midnight Commander.) Nothing happens if i click onto the "Makefile" (only a short flash of a window, nothing else). I experience the same if i write : "make" or "make install". I would be very happy if somebody helped me in connection with it. As far as i know, the so-called ppp-package is the part of the  DSL ... so i suppose that to install this "irda-utils": it's essential for the future IRDA-connection. I don't know whether i follow the right road ... but i think that i have to install it. How? Every information is welcome in connestion with this subject. Thanks!

You need to install the gcc1.dsl extension from the myDSL repository if you wish to  "make" or compile a new program from scratch.

Also, there is already an existing irda-tools precompiled package in the Debian apt-get system.

Try choosing "Synaptic" from the menu and then choose to install irda-utils.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the help, cbagger01! :) You are very helpful, and it's a good forum with good people. :) I will try soon what you wrote down. Good night! (At least it's just midnight in Hungary.)

Ooops, in the meantime i found the gcc1.dsl here: < http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/damnsmall/mydsl/system/ > ... so it's OK (at least i hope), ... but the other thing what you mentioned: The existing irda-tool precompiled package in the Debian apt-get system ... Where can i find it? At the same place (ibiblio.org/pub/...) ?
