I searched the forums AND the documentation and didn't find anything....so....

I am connected via an ethernet cable to a Linksys bridge that receives a connection from a router. I found nothing in the documentation as to this type of setup. Now, how do I connect D-nSmallLinux to my connection? (lol)

The DSL-embedded that I have connects immediately, but when I boot from the CD it does not connect. Can I connect from DSL without impairing my Windows XP Home connection? And can I connect at all with this setup?

I have the latest version of DSL. . um. . .DSL1.0RC1 I think, right?

I'd say it works in embedded because you are running inside a system which has already been properly configured.  DSL is probably using your XP system's connection rather than setting up its own....same thing you'd get running linux on windows inside vmware.

Do you use DHCP with your router?  If not you'll probably need to set up your network manually.

What is DHCP? And how would I set it up manually?

Look at your Windows XP Network settings.
There should be a TCP/IP window there.

Does the window have

"Obtain IP address automatically" selected under TCP/IP properties?

If so, then you have DHCP enabled for your router.

I can have it obtained automatically, but then I can't, because I have computers getting info off mine locating it by the local IP address :(

Can anyone help? Can I set this manually. . .and what should I put in the settings?

I'm assuming your router assigns the IP addresses?
I've always relied on the fact that DHCP allows me to be lazy, so i don't know exactly what to do, but i suppose you should consult the settings on the XP box and see what's there first.  Maybe you can use that as a guide.  You might also need to change the router configuration too, but that's just limited speculation on my part.

Well its know that most routers configure themselves to the following IP: 192.168.0.1

For Windows XP that is the default gateway.

Now as for configuring the PC to use DHCP and allowing other people to connect to you here is what you need to do: Set your PC to obtain the IP automatticlly and then on the other PCs simply have them ping your host name (NOT THE DYNAMICLLY ASSIGNED IP). It should look something like this:

Code Sample
ping Computername
example: Ping cphp

If my memory is not fooling with me that code up there will automatticlly resolve the IP for your PC from other computers.

Now if you are using DSL or similar linux then you can download the Samba client. Using that it will let you mount a Windows share.
