Nforce3-driversForum: Networking Topic: Nforce3-drivers started by: exzrael Posted by exzrael on Mar. 30 2005,20:35
Nforce3-motherboards are spreading and I have found that the integrated networkcards are NOT supported without Nforce-drivers from Nvidia's website. Are there any other way, besides downloading and installing these drivers, to find and use integrated networkcards? I just want to boot from cd and go for the internet.

Unless the drivers are open-source licensed like the GPL, it is unlikely that they will ever be included in the Debia/Knoppix/DSL kernel and will always require installation by the user. Now it is possible that someone will write an open source freely distributable version of the network driver in the future and this version would then be included in future releases. For example, look at the Nvidia accelerated graphics support. There is an open source "nv" driver that provides 2D acelereated graphics for XFree86. But if you want to use 3D graphics acceleration with a Nvidia card and XFree86, you need to download and install their propriatary drivers. |
