DSL detects my Cisco Aironet 350 PCMCIA card fine and using the netcardconfig utility I can set a fixed IP on my network and all the other parameters including gateway and nameserver. All looks good and I see no errors or obvious problems in ifconfig or iwconfig. The only thing I am unsure of is why eth0 and wifi0 are both present - I read to ignore wifi0 and configure eth0 only which I have done as above.

The problem is I can't ping anything either internally on my network or externally. Ping just sits there doing nothing. Of course neither can I browse any web sites.

I am convinced I'm close and for once Linux has come up trumps over windows for me. I just need connectivity and I ought to have a useable system on a crappy old box.

My wireless AP is fully working with several other boxes round the house. ping is fine from them. DHCP is off - fixed IPs on same subnet all round. WEP key in use. Mac address of card added to AP.

Thanks for any help.

Hello there,

I use a netgear pcmcia wifi card in my laptop and this is picked up as eth0. You need to run the wlcardconfig program (thinks thats the right name), ie type 'wlcardconfig' in any terminal window. This should run a small gui app and ask you to enter parameters for your wireless network.

HTH

P.S.: You can always search the forum for alternative help and existing guides  :;):

Yep aware of searching and have posted here as a last resort as I like to fix things myself. The Cisco card seems to be slightly different in that it shows up as 2 interfaces (including wifi0) which are one and the same. As I wrote I have configd eth0 using the DSL GUI and all went great which is why it's so difficcult to find info.
