Hey everyone, I'm pretty new to Linux and I was skeptical about it until I tried DSL, now I believe! Anyhow, I noticed that there were a lot of posts pertaining to wireless card problems. Well, I have another one, but It's a D-Link card, which I haven't seen a post about yet. I read on the DSL documentation that you could get wireless to work with just about any wireless card if you put in a little work. I really want to get the internet working on DL because Microsoft has screwed me again and Windows will lock out in 30-days unless I "activate" it. Just for that, I think that I'm going to give Linux a try instead. So if you can help me out here and let me know how to get wireless going with a D-Link DWL-520 PCI card, then I would be eternally grateful.

Sorry, I can't help you with this (at least, I don't think I can), 'cause I too am having problems getting my D-Link Card to work with DSL.

I have a DELL Inspiron 1100 laptop and a DWL-650 (RevP) cardbus adapter (802.11b).  At boot-up, DSL starts cardmgr, which beeps and complains:

cardmgr[53]: starting, version 3.2.2
cardmgr[53]: unsupported card in socket 0
cardmgr[53]:        product info "D-Link"
cardmgr[53]: "DWL-650 Wireless PC Card RevP" "ISL37101P-10" "A3"
cardmgr[53]: manfid: 0x000b, 0x7110 function: 6 network

Okay, so I found /etc/pcmcia/config (and config-2.2 and config-2.4), which are full of card descriptions just like this.  I added an entry for my card with bind "prism2_cs".  This makes absolutely now difference.

I am too much of a n00bie to figure out who or what or if these config's get used (seems logical).  Do I need to do something to make them current?

Of course nothing works to program the card, cause it is not even found.  I think I am on the right track, just stopped.

I have also tried the ndiswrapper route.  Driver loads and claims hardware in NOT present.  dmesg complains about alignment.

Again, I am stumped.  I have spent days hunting and hacking.

Looking forward to some wise and helpful suggestions.  Thanks.

These threads may help with the DWL 650 card..
From what your posting, it does seem to be recognized in
your pcmcia slot at boottime ..

There are some DWL 520's that are an easy setup,
and some versions (revisions) that seem to be much more difficult.
Search the forums for DWL or 520 , as I found many, many threads
regarding this popular card..
