shows up as eth0 in dmesg

netcardconfig->dhcp broadcast fails every time.

tried manually configuring it, but still says network unreachable.

sudo ping <ip> says network unreachable as well.

anything else i should try? thanks in advance.

ps: in ifconfig, it shows eth0 and lo. wtf is lo? it says network loop or something.

I have used a Linksys LNE100TX with DSL. I don't know if it is a v4.1 card, but it worked.

Try this. Open an xterminal window and type:

sudo modprobe tulip
sudo netcardconfig
exit
