DSL 1.2
Toshiba Tecra 730 CDT (150 Mhz Laptop)
Netcomm NP5430 11g Wireless card.

DSL 1.2 gave messages

"request_firmware() failed for 'isl3890' "
"could not upload firmware ('isl3890') "

Subsequently did a hard drive install of DSL 1.2.
Downloaded latest driver files for NP5430 from
< Ntecomm Site > Version 1.04.0. using my other PC.

Found wl54GT.arm file in driver zip file and copied via floppy to /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/ and renamed "isl3890".

Went and found the file "firmware.agent" file and copied to /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware. I made firmware.agent executable.

(I found firmware.agent at
after googling for it. The link is a fair way down the page. I could not find it at the prism54.org site.)

I rebooted (probably didn't have to but wasn't sure what service to restart) and the link light on the PCMCIA card went on and because I had already configured my router for that MAC address I was able to get out to the net.

Good Luck

Thank you for sharing your procedure.

I am sure that it will help someone else here in the future.

Excellent information nevc64.
Obviously there are non-Netcomm products with the same (or similar) chipset, so allow me to clarify for others seeking such informaton that you are dealing with the prism54 driver, and add these keywords for future searches -

Indigo
Duette

ISL3877
