i untar'ed them and then the instructions said "make".  i tried that command, but it didn't work.  i also tried ./Makefile.  i don't understand cause i'm a linux newbie.  :(

do you have the required modules to compile?, i think you might need gtk and all thoes .dsl('s) but these arn't reccomended for a HDD install so you have to compile on live-cd and then save it somewhere because once you install them you cant uninstall. Hope that helped, i am a bit of a n00b aswell

well so far i've learned a lot more.  i've gotten the make command, but when i tried to run it, it gave me an error that said something along the lines of "No such file (/lib/modules/2.4.26/build/.config)  stop."

i downloaded the 2.4.26 kernel source (from kernel.org) and i deleted all the files in the 2.4.26 folder and added the files in the kernel source tar that i downloaded.  i recompiled the kernel and it still says it can't find the build/.config file because there is no build folder.  what's up?

ok after not being able to compile drivers, i thought i would give ndiswrapper a shot.  i used the gui at the dsl control panel for ndiswrapper.  after i entered my info (i used the net8180.inf driver), but it didn't work.  i ran dmesg and this is what i got.

ndiswrapper version 0.10 loaded (preempt=no,smp=yes)
PCI: Setting latency timer of device 05:00.0 to 64
__alloc_pages: 0-order allocation failed (gfp=0x21/0)
ndiswrapper (NdisMAllocateSharedMemory:997): Failed to allocate DMA coherent memory.  Windows driver requested 2042 bytes of cached memory

ndiswrapper (NdisWriteErrorLogEntry:196): log: C0001389, length: 1 (00000402)

ndiswrapper (ndis_init_one_pci:1458): Windows driver couldn't initialize the device

would anyone know how i can fix it?

Sorry to bump, but that is the EXACT error message that I am getting. What is the solution to this?
