Hi, i need the GCC 2.95 for build the modem drivers. the gcc1.dsl don't works because the kernel has build with GCC 2.I tried to instal the driver from < http://www.heby.de/ltmodem > but is build with GCC 3, If somebody has the driver build with gcc 2 please send me. Sorry by my English Posted by Your Fuzzy God on Sep. 06 2005,22:42
Try "apt-get install gcc-2.95"

How, if the modem don't works, i need build the drivers first. Posted by mikshaw on Sep. 07 2005,02:52
I built lucent drivers using the gcc and kernel headers available in the myDSL repository. I never succeeded in actually using them, but they did get built and loaded without errors

I build the drivers using the kernel header and the gcc from the myDSL repository, and the system crash when load the modules.

Same here. That doesn't necessarily mean that the drivers themselves are faulty. The messages I received indicated that the build process was successful. Beyond that, I have no idea...never had much knowledge about hardware support.

migrate to puppy linux, which has downloadable lucent modules that install straight away, and save yourself grief.

well...I'm not migrating to anything, since i already use 3 distros as it is. But i'm guessing these "puppy" modules would help =o)

no mikshaw,i meant for KinY, or anybody else trying to get ltmodems working. i tried, gave up & took easier option of puppy. i know there is argument that people should buy proper modem etc. but if you've already got laptop with winmodem why not use if possible. i'm sure for linuxheads compilation of ltmodem would be no problem so don't understand why hasn't been done & ltmodem.dsl available for dload. have people with aversion to using winmodems also replaced bios with linuxbios? (tongue in cheek!). Posted by stinky on Sep. 26 2005,13:16
I think I have successfully created a myDSL package to load the lucent drivers on DSL. It works on my box, but mine is a little strange--a Compaq IA1 Internet Appliance with a HD install to a flash card. Could someone test the following myDSL add-on before I post it?< http://www.pire-ky.org/temp/linmodup.tar.gz > You will have to get into emelFM and load the myDSL package. Next, to load the modules and configure the modem, type the following from the root console: /opt/linmodup/linmodup Please note that this will taint the kernel, but it works perfectly on my system. To see what the package is actually doing: more /opt/linmodup/linmodup If you have any reccomendations or it does not work on your system, please let me know. In particular, when running from CD, I am wondering if the mknod line will work. ...Stinky Posted by mikshaw on Sep. 27 2005,01:30
Holy crap. It works!Stinky....you are genius. Posted by stinky on Sep. 27 2005,12:19
Just to check, Milkshaw, are you running DSL from CD or are you running DSL from a hard drive/flash install?

I tried this from a live CD with an LTModem but I couldn't get it to connect. It recognizes the modem and 'opens' it but then it just site and clicks when trying to dialout.Chris Posted by stinky on Sep. 27 2005,13:59
Chris:Just to check, are you using a controlerless modem? I am pretty sure you are out of luck if the modem is a controllerless modem. If the chip on it says HCF, you are out of luck. If it says HSF on it, you can probably get it to work with some tweaking. I would download the wvdial.dsl myDSL package and see if it is a dialer program. wvdial is super easy to configure. Also, I would reccomend using a text editor to look at the pci entries in /proc to see if you can 1) see the type of winmodem you have (HSF or HCF) and 2) see if the modem is actually being recognized by the kernel. ...Stinky Posted by mikshaw on Sep. 27 2005,14:03
I used it in frugal on a hard drive. I don't see why it would make a difference...liveCD and frugal are nearly identical.

This is the missing link. I am running DSL 1.5 on a Compaq Presario 1610 with a HD install. I used XFree86 to get the video and the touchpad to work. The soundcard was gotten working with a little work, and as of today (and this "driver") I am now using the internal winmodem. Thanks alot to everyone who created DSL and keep up the good work.

Stinky - this works for myself as well.I am running DSL 1.5 on a Toshiba Satellite Pro 2100CDT, frugal HDD install. Many thanks for your work on this - with DSL and your fix I have resuscitated a junked laptop at my office and I now have a computer to do my work on. If you're ever in Mozambique give me a ring and I'll buy you all the Cervejas de Mocambique beer you can drink. |
