First off... great board... I learnt loads just reading stuff... Here is the problem... Newbie Linux user... Annoyed so much with M$ that I've decided to replace all my computers with one or another version of Linux... My old IBM T.Pad 600e was a prime candidate to start with as its a run down low spec machine that I'd kept 'just in case'. Found DSL on the net and thought why not... Ran off a CD and chucked it in... Very impressed from the start so I installed it on the machine wiping all traces of M$ without so much as a tear! Problem was I never checked to see if my SMC PCMCIA WiFi card worked before I did... It don't! Not that I mind in a big way but I would like to see it all good again.... Card - SMC2835W 2.4Ghz 54 Mbps linking to an SMC wireless router... Error message on T.Pad - prism54: request_firmware() failed for 'isl3890' eth0: could not upload firmware ('isl3890') Operation failed. Now this is just the start of my probs... I have 4 desktops and 2 servers to build yet! Bugger.... Posted by tempestuous on Sep. 28 2005,08:40
Many such problems have already been answered on this forum. Yours is here - < http://damnsmalllinux.org/cgi-bin....;t=6753 >You can get the latest prism54 firmware here - < http://prism54.org/~mcgrof/firmware/ > Remember to rename it "isl3890". And you can get firmware.agent as part of the hotplug source .gz from < http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=17679 > Posted by madmort on Sep. 28 2005,13:49
Thank you... Ironically enough I found an old Corega Stick11 and popped that in... Guess what.... Success at last!Darn it! I didn't think to search for isl3890! I must have read 200 posts before I decided I couldnt find what I wanted! Thank you very much for your assistance... I All I have to do now is figure out how to go about doing what you've suggested! lol Its one way to learn I guess...lol Posted by AwPhuch on Sep. 28 2005,22:25
